Many people think that in order to do business online you need to have an expensive merchant account to have the ability to take payments by credit card from your customers. Nothing could be further from the truth. Merchant accounts can be hard to get and the monthly fees can really add up.

It’s been almost one year since Google launched its very own payment service, known as Google Checkout. But prior to its arrival, consumers and merchants alike anticipated much more than just another payment service - they foresaw the unleashing of PayPal’s biggest rival.

There have been instances when Paypal has suddenly downgraded accounts from premier to personal. There have been instances when Paypal has even frozen accounts without any information. The limit that I have in my own account is $2500. As a premier member there are certain charges that are deducted from my account when money comes into my account. A limited account status happens as a measure of fraud prevention or if you have failed on delivery of goods. With a limited account status you can have limited transactions on your account. If the limit is sufficient to carry out your transaction then you should not have any problem.
The problem starts when you have transactions that are exceeding your limit. The foremost step that you should take is having an alternate option such as E-Gold. This will help you minimize delay in circulating your money. Though E-Gold may not be as popular as Paypal but it widely accepted. There is a general trend that many merchants are opting for an alternative payment option and they are finding it quite beneficial. There is nothing much that can be done if your account has been automatically downgraded. It will be a futile exchange of emails which will result in you losing time. TradeEnable is another payment system which allows you to do transactions over the Internet. Other systems are e-Charge Phone and Mondex.
You should do a due diligence before you decide on which one to use. Your objective should be to give an alternative to your customers to make payments. Keep using your main transaction system and always keep an alternative system as a backup. This is the only way towards a successful e-business entrepreneur.

A new online payment processor is in the works to compete against Ebay’s Paypal system. Tentatively called Google Wallet, the new system is being developed by the Mountain View, CA, search engine giant and is expected to have an official launch date by early 2006. Choice is good and soon consumers may have a viable alternative to quirky Paypal.

Paypal e-check problems cause delays in payment to sellers. This problem has been persisting for quite sometime and Paypal has not been able to solve this problem completely. As a result sellers face inordinate delays receiving payments and this hampers their businesses to a certain extent. Sellers should adopt a different approach when they are facing this problem. They should dispatch the goods only when the e-check has been cleared and the money realized. In this way they can avoid a situation of their money being blocked.
Buyers always have the option of checking out the status of their payments. If they see their purchase information it will show as “uncleared†if the payment has not been realized by the seller and it will show as “completed†once the payment has been cleared. There is another column which shows the date when Paypal expects the payment to be cleared. Sellers have the option of delaying the shipment, but they should always make a note that the goods will be dispatched only when the payment is realized.
Sellers often prefer to dispatch the before they realize the payment. E-business is very competitive and customers easily move away from one seller to another if they are not satisfied with the services. There are options to sellers apart from Paypal and one of the options include instant ACH check services. Many sellers are moving away from Paypal because of this delay in clearing. It is suggested that you always keep your options open but not affiliating with Paypal may reduce your credibility to some extent.

I am a home-office-mom-soon-to-be and came accross your long-sought article “Using-Paypal-for-International-Users.” I’m skeptical with opening a US account via Malaysian-based firms, and I’m thinking of registering for iKobo. Now you’ve had your experience with iKobo, so I’m hoping if you can share some of it and advise whether iKobo is the right choice when it comes to money transfer ease for clients and fund withdrawal from local bank, say Maybank or HSBC.

If you are a freelance writer, do you depend on Paypal for at least part of your payment processing? Sure, getting a timely check is nice especially when it quickly clears the bank and no fees are taken out. Still, being able to accept immediate payment is where its at for most of us. Therefore, Paypal has been the payment processor of choice for many self employed workers for many years.
